First a little history lesson.....
There was a time, long ago that printers had ribbons and used dot matrix printing to create tiny dots that, when looked at, were readable. Sometimes they were BARELY readable, however. Changing ribbons and printing wheels to change type face was a chore.
Then, in 1984, the first laser printer that used toner cartridges came into being. Quickly, no one wanted a dot matrix printer anymore. The laser printer caused ink powder from the toner cartridge to fuse onto the paper where the program told the printer to leave ink. The output was much clearer and much more professional in appearance. Very soon, dot matrix printers became known as "door stops".
By 1990, inkjet printters that used drop-in ink cartridges became readily available and very reasonable prices. These inkjet cartridges were very easy to change without any fuss. The cost to the user, compared to the laser toner cartridge, was significantly reduced.
Clive Roberts
Clive Roberts main role within the FSB was the development and technical design of the online membership system and online directory serving over 200,000 members.
Clive Roberts was responsible for capturing the requirements of the FSB and the wider membership.
Clive Roberts was the lead developer for this project that delivered a solution using IBM Redback with a browser based front end.
The membership system not only managed the FSB member details but was the basis of the online directory for determining content access which
Clive Roberts had developed using.net 2003 and again later using .net 2005. This online directory allowed the federation members to collaborate, network, and share best practice.
During these 3 years
Clive Roberts was also responsible for the mentoring, support and coordination of a team consisting of 33 web page designers who generated the content for the FSB websites.
One of
Clive Roberts`s other successes was to designed and built a web application in (Flash 8) to deliver media (movies, audio and pictures) and content from events and conferences.
